What is You’ve Been Booed?
You’ve Been Booed is a Halloween tradition that started in the early 1980s and usually happens starting in late September through Halloween night. It is considered a nice and fun “treat” for neighbors or coworkers.
This is an easy way to spread some Halloween cheer around your whole neighborhood.
All you do is gather a basket of Halloween treats and goodies. Add a You’ve Been Booed printable card to the boo basket and leave it on someone’s doorstep or desk at work anytime during the month of October.
Think of it as a friendlier version of doorbell ditch. The Halloween boo game is harmless, good fun, meant to bring joy to others.
The printable card includes instructions for the recipient to pass on the fun to 2 more people. This way, even more people can enjoy a happier Fall season.
The person who receives a basket of treats will put the “We’ve Been Booed” sign on their desk, front door, or a front window to show they have already been boo’d so others know to give a basket to someone who hasn’t received a treat yet.
What Does the You’ve Been Booed Card Say?
The You’ve Been Booed printable card says:
You’ve Been Booed!
- Enjoy the Treats!
- Keep it going! Within 2 days make 2 copies of this page.
- Put together 2 bags of treats and secretly deliver the treats with a copy of this page to 2 neighbors who haven’t yet been booed!
- Cut out the “We’ve Been BOOed” sign on the opposite side of this page and place it on your front door or window to show you’ve already been BOOed!
What to Put in the Basket
There are so many things you can include in a “You’ve Been BOOed” basket. Don’t limit yourself to a gift basket though.
You can create a boo bucket, boo bags, or a boo box — the form of the surprise is entirely up to you. The goal is to leave a fun Halloween surprise for your friends, coworkers or neighbors.
I like to keep it simple so other people don’t feel like they have to spend a lot of money in order to keep the fun going.
Candy is always a great treat option. Halloween candy is plentiful and inexpensive at Halloween time too.
Also consider other small treats like individual packs of cookies or chips. Homemade treats make great Halloween goodies too.
Check your local Dollar Tree or Target Bullseye’s Playground dollar spot for inexpensive and cute little Halloween themed trinkets. Some items to look for are:
- Stickers
- Pencils
- Socks
- Plastic cups
- Straws
- Necklaces
- Toys
- Candles
- Kitchen towels
Equipment Needed / Helpful Tools for Printables
Here are some tools that may be useful when you print out this You’ve Been Booed printable.
Printer: This one is a great budget printer. If you’re willing to spend just a little more though, this is a better option. And if you’re looking for an all-in-one home office machine, this one does it all, has high reviews and includes 2 years of ink.
Ink cartridges: Speaking of ink, this is where the cost of using printables can really add up! To save BIG on ink, buy it from CompAndSave.com. It’s substantially cheaper than anywhere else and they carry ink for all major printer brands and models.
Printer paper or cardstock: If you’re printing for one-time, quick use, print on regular printer paper. If you need the printout to hold up to being handled often, choose cardstock.

Very Cute!! However, doesn’t a ghost usually say Boo? Why isn’t there a ghost theme?
Thanks!

Hi Erin, thanks for letting me know. I’ve checked and see you’ve been added as a subscriber and the email was sent. When I click the link in the email it works for me so there must be some other error that I don’t think I can fix on my end. Going to email you the PDF directly so you don’t have to mess with a link.
