This homemade chicken and biscuit mix tastes just as good as those you buy at the fast food chain – but it is more affordable and easy to customize however you want! However, the star of this food item is the chicken itself! Did you know Chick-fil-A uses only chickens raised in barns or farms that don’t pump them with antibiotics? Additionally, the fast food chain only uses whole chicken breast for their sandwich – unlike others that may use ground-up meat from different chicken parts.

Of course, there’s the breading used to coat these whole chicken breasts. This fried chicken sandwich recipe doesn’t include any particularly hard-to-get or complicated ingredients, so you might not even need to do a separate run to the grocery store to get them.

  • Large Chicken Breasts: This recipe will use two pieces of boneless and skinless chicken breasts. However, they will be cut in half because this will allow them to cook in the air fryer in less than 20 minutes. 
  • Pickle juice: This will act as the main marinating ingredient for our chicken. The longer the meat sits in the juice, the more flavorful it will become.
  • Spices: The pepper and chili powder will give the outer portions of your chicken a mild kick.
  • Biscuits: To save time, we will be using premade biscuits for this recipe. No need to make the biscuits beforehand! If you still want to make your own, go ahead and try this Air Fryer Biscuits recipe!

Chicken Breast: If you are all out of chicken breasts, you may use chicken thighs or chicken tenders as a substitute.

Pickle Juice: In its place, you can try a saltwater brine solution made of 1 teaspoon salt and ⅓ cup water.

If you prefer your fried chicken with a twist, here are some amazing suggestions to make them even more amazing:

  • Add cheese: Cheese adds a nice flavor to this sandwich. Choose milder types like American, cheddar, or provolone as a creamy, cheesy addition to this dish.
  • Make it sweet: Putting a bit of hot honey drizzle or sweet honey butter on the biscuit tops can make this sandwich especially delectable!

  • Boning Knife: This knife is best used to remove skin and excess fat from meat.

🔪 How to Make a Chicken Biscuit Sandwich (Chick-fil-A Style)

If you already have all your tools and ingredients lined up, it’s time to get busy! Here are the quick and easy steps to make this biscuit sandwich mostly from scratch.

Step 1: Prep the Chicken

If there are any, trim excess fat and skin from the 2 large chicken breasts and cut them in half.

Step 2: Marinate the Chicken

Place the chicken breasts in a bowl (or a storage bag) along with the pickle juice and water. Let the mixture sit for at least 1 hour or overnight to allow the meat to absorb all the flavor.

Step 3: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, add 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of cornstarch, ½ teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon each of pepper, granulated sugar, paprika, and chili powder. Mix well.

Step 4: Make the Egg Wash

Mix the egg with the milk in a separate mixing bowl.

Step 5: Dip the Chicken in the Dry Ingredients

Take the chicken breasts from the mixture of pickle juice and water. Using your hands, dip each chicken in the flour mixture. Make sure the fillet is coated evenly.

Step 6: Dip the Chicken in the Egg Wash

Next, dip the coated chicken breasts in the egg wash.

Step 8: Put the Chicken Breasts in the Air Fryer Basket

Put a piece of parchment paper in the air fryer basket and lay the coated chicken breasts on it. Use cooking spray to spray the meat with oil.

Step 9: Air Fry The Chicken

Cook the chicken breasts at 380°F for about 16 to 18 minutes, flipping the chicken halfway to cook the other side. Then, cook them until their internal temperature reaches 165°F, which you can check with a thermometer, and the breading looks golden brown and crisp.

Step 10: Remove the Chicken From the Air Fryer

Remove the chicken fillets from the air fryer basket and let them rest for a bit.

Step 11: Prepare the Biscuits

Cut your store-bought or homemade biscuits in half using a knife. If desired, you can warm the biscuits in the oven for a bit.

Finally, place the chicken in between the biscuit slices. Serve and enjoy!

  • Also, it’s best to avoid crowding and air frying too much chicken all at once. If you’re using very large chicken breasts, or making more than this recipe requires, make sure to cook in batches. This is to ensure there’s enough space left in the air fryer for the chicken to be cooked all the way through.

You can reheat your sandwiches in the oven. Set it at 350°F for about 7 to 10 minutes or until they are warmed through. Remove from the oven and enjoy.
