Ingredients
You only need a few simple ingredients to help you make this slow cooker appetizer recipe. After one quick trip to the grocery store, you will be ready to make this tasty dish.
- chicken breasts – I used boneless skinless chicken breasts for easy shredding.
- cream cheese – Make sure that you use a full-fat block of cream cheese for this recipe. You don’t want to use whipped cream cheese, it won’t stand up to the heat.
Substitutions
Shredded Cheese: I used cheddar cheese but you can also use Mexican shredded cheese if you prefer.
Dressing: If you don’t have bottled dressing on hand, you can make your own homemade dressing with milk, mayo, and a packet of ranch dressing mix.
Variations / Options / Add-Ins
There are so many ways that you can customize this recipe to fit your family’s needs.
Add some heat: If you like things spicy, then add a few dashes of hot sauce to the mixture. You could also use pre-cooked buffalo chicken to make this dish even easier.
Add in some veggies: This is a great way to sneak in some extra vitamins and minerals. I like to add a few handfuls of frozen spinach or kale. You could also add in some chopped bell peppers, carrots, or onions.
Make it creamier: You could also add some sour cream to the mixture.
