Why are Strawberries so Good Dipped in Candy Melts?

I love serving strawberries at Easter because they are in season and they are also filled with antioxidants. Dipping them in candy melts makes this an extra special treat.

  • It’s a nice flavor contrast because ripe strawberries offer a natural sweetness and slightly tart flavor, while candy melts provide a rich, creamy, and often intensely sweet taste.
  • The soft, juicy texture of a strawberry is a delightful contrast to the smooth texture of the candy melts, creating a satisfying combination in every bite.
  • The bright red of the strawberries, contrasted with the colors of the candy melts, makes for a visually appealing treat.
  • Candy melts come in a wide variety of colors and flavors, allowing you to customize the look—you can change up the colors of the candy based on the holiday

🥘 Ingredients

Bowls of vibrant candy melts in yellow, purple, blue, pink, and green sit alongside a container filled with strawberries.

You only need a few simple ingredients to make this festive recipe. All of these ingredients are easy to pick up at your local grocery store as you prepare for the holiday.

  • Fresh strawberries: Look for strawberries that are ripe and sweet—choose ones that are bright red, plump, and have fresh-looking green stems.
  • Candy melts: You will need 5 different bright or pastel colors.
  • Coconut oil: This is to help thin the candy melts if needed.

See recipe card for complete list of ingredients and quantities.

🔀 Substitutions

If you don’t have the ingredients you need, see if you have these instead:

Candy melts: Instead of candy melts, you can use white chocolate chips or white almond bark plus oil-based food coloring with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to thin it. You could also use dairy-free white chocolate plus food coloring for a vegan option.

Coconut oil: If you don’t have coconut oil, you can use shortening instead. Start with ½ teaspoon per ½ cup of candy melts and stir well—you can add another ½ teaspoon at a time if needed.

🌈 Variations / Options / Add-Ins

Here are a few ways that you can personalize this delicious recipe.

Color and coating variations: Use a contrasting color of melts to drizzle over the coated strawberries for a decorative touch. Or, after dipping, lightly flick a tiny bit of cocoa powder or crushed Oreos on the coating to resemble speckled eggs.

Flavor add-ins: Add flavored extracts (like vanilla, almond, or coconut) to the melted chocolate for a unique taste. You could also stir in a little peanut butter, Nutella, or caramel into the candy melts before dipping.

Toppings: Use pastel-colored sprinkles, mini pearl sprinkles, or edible glitter for a festive touch. Shredded coconut, crushed almonds, pecans, or pistachios add a delicious crunch.

🥄 Equipment Needed / Helpful Tools

You only need a few kitchen tools to help you make this Easter dessert recipe.

  • Baking sheet: This is where you’ll assemble the treats.
  • Parchment paper: It will cover the baking sheet so you can put the strawberries here after dipping while the candy melts harden.
  • Microwave safe bowls – You will need a small microwave safe bowl for every color candy melt.
  • Toothpicks – These are great for helping you dip the strawberries.

👩‍🍳 Pro Tips

Here are a few tips to make sure that your dipped strawberries turn out perfectly every time you make them.

  • Water causes candy melts to seize, so dry each berry thoroughly with a paper towel. Let them air-dry for at least 30 minutes before dipping.
  • If the melted coating is too thick, stir in ½ teaspoon of shortening or coconut oil at a time until smooth.
  • If you need better control of the strawberry while dipping, use a fork instead of a toothpick.
  • Tap off the excess coating in the bowl before placing the berry on the parchment paper.
  • Add sprinkles or toppings while the coating is still wet so they stick well.

❓ Recipe FAQs

How long do these strawberries last?

They are best eaten fresh within 24 hours, but you can store them in the fridge for up to 2 days in a loosely covered container.

Can you freeze these dipped strawberries?

Freezing is not recommended because they release moisture when thawing, making the coating soft and unappealing.

Can I make these ahead?

Yes! You can dip the strawberries a day ahead, but for the freshest taste, it’s best to make them the same day you plan to serve them.
