One of my favorite thing about Cinco de Mayo is that it gives me a chance to combine my two favorite things, Mexican food and spicy margaritas. What’s not to love about a holiday that combines those two awesome things?

I’m a huge fan of Frozen Margaritas, however with this recipe, when you add a little heat to this delicious adult beverage, it just takes this classic cocktail to a whole different level.

I love a sweet and tangy classic margarita, there is just something refreshing and comforting about the lime based drink. But, when I’m watching my sugar intake I come back to this skinny margarita recipe, because it’s low in sugar so I can feel better about drinking it.

🥘 Ingredients

To make this spicy cocktail recipe you will need a few basic ingredients, however these ingredients are easy to find at your local grocery and liquor store. So, next time you are near the store stop by and grab these ingredients, you won’t regret it.

  • Tequila:  I recommend a good quality tequila for the best flavor in this drink.
  • Triple Sec: This orange liqueur will add a sweet citrus flavor to your cocktail.
  • Jalapeno: Look for a fresh and ripe jalapeno that is firm without blemishes.
  • Sweetener: You will need your favorite sugar free sweetener. I used Splenda this time, but Monk Fruit Sweetener is a great alternative as is Stevia.

This is a quick overview of the ingredients that you need. You can find the full list of ingredients in the recipe card below.

🔀 Substitutions

Liqueur: Cointreau or Grand Mariner could be switched out for the triple sec.

Sweetener: If you aren’t worried about the sugar content you can use sugar or simple syrup to sweeten this drink.

👩‍🍳 Pro Tips

  • I recommend that you use a high powered blender like a Ninja for Vitamix if you want a smooth beverage with perfectly crushed ice.
  • Instead of rimming your glass in salt, you could use sugar instead.
  • For a beautiful garnish, add some lime wedges or jalapeno slices to the rim of your glass.
