Ingredients
To make these tasty chips you only need four simple ingredients. You should already have most of these ingredients on hand.
- Bunch of fresh kale stalks
- Garlic powder
- Kosher salt
- Olive oil
A bunch of kale looks like a lot. Remember that the kale will shrink some after air frying so don’t worry about being stuck with a truckload of kale chips.
Substitutions
Table Salt: Don’t have kosher salt? Use table salt or sea salt in its place.
Oil: Out of olive oil? Use avocado oil or canola oil instead.
Seasoning Variations
Garlic is just one of your tasty seasoning options. Here are some other suggestions:
Cajun Seasoning: Use a Cajun seasoning blend in place of the garlic for a spicy kick.
Ranch: Swap out the garlic for ranch seasoning mix for a ranch twist on your kale chips.
Parmesan Cheese: Sprinkle some parmesan on to add a salty cheesy flavor.
Nutritional Yeast: Want the cheesy flavor without the dairy? Use nutritional yeast intead.
Plain: Leave off the garlic all together for plain Kale Chips.

How to Make Air Fryer Kale Chips
These Kale Chips cook up in just 4 simple steps and in less than 10 minutes! Can’t beat that!
Step 1: Prepare kale
First, wash and dry kale. To speed dry the kale pieces, give them a few whirls in a salad spinner and/or pat between paper towels.
Remove the kale leaves from the stalks. Then, cut the leaves into bite-sized pieces.
Step 2: Season your kale
In a bowl combine the small pieces of kale with the olive oil and salt. Add the garlic powder. Salt will cut the kale’s bitterness, but you can season with other spices besides garlic.
Step 3: Air Fry kale chips
Place the kale chips in the air fryer basket. If you have a small air fryer (or a lot of kale) you may need to cook in batches.
Cook in the air fryer for a couple minutes at 375 degrees. Shake the basket and cook for a minute or two more.
Keep a close eye on the kale while it’s cooking since it may be ready in as little as 3 minutes. It only takes 3-5 minutes to make them crispy.
Step 4: Serve your chips
Let chips rest at room temperature for 5 minutes before enjoying even though I know you’ll want to eat the kale chips right away. Trust me, that extra few minutes is essential to making your kale chips crispy.
