Wontons are a dish that originated in China, with evidence of its existence going back to the Qing Dynasty in 1644. Most of the time wontons are stuffed with a savory filling, but for this recipe, we are filling them with the classic flavors of this campfire dessert.

Ingredients
You only need a few ingredients to help you make this easy recipe. You most likely will need to make a quick trip to the grocery store to grab the wonton wrappers, but trust me you will be so glad that you did.
Wonton Wrappers – You can buy wonton wrappers in the refrigerated section of your local grocery store. Usually in the produce sections.
Chocolate Chips – Any brand of chocolate chips will work, but I used milk chocolate chips because they are the closest to the candy bars that are typically used.
Oil – This oil will be used for frying so you will need to use vegetable oil or canola oil because of the smoke point.
Substitutions
Chocolate: Instead of chocolate chips, you could also use chopped-up Hershey’s candy bars instead.
Wrappers: If you can’t find wonton wrappers you can use egg roll wrappers that you cut into squares instead.
Variations / Options / Add-Ins

Graham Crackers: If you want a little more of a crunch in your smores wontons you could add some graham cracker crumbs to the chocolate chip filling.
Peanut Butter: Try adding a little bit of peanut butter to the chocolate chips for a Reese’s Pieces version of this recipe.
Pumpkin: For a fun fall twist, try using pumpkin spice chocolate chips!

Pro Tips

- You can use an egg wash instead of water to seal the edges of a wonton wrapper. But, water also works just fine.
- Make sure to squeeze the air out of your wontons before you seal them.
