What is Never Have I Ever For Kids?

Simply put, this is a game where players say “Never have I ever” followed by an activity that they’ve never done.

An example would be, “Never have I ever met Daniel Radcliffe” or “Never have I ever ridden in an armored truck.”  However, if someone among the players has actually done these things, then they must fold down one finger.

The game’s alternative name is “ten fingers” since you need to have ten fingers down before you lose the game entirely!

Why Should You Play It

More than just a way to pass the time (which in itself is a benefit!), playing games like “Never Have I Ever” can result in good things for your children!

1. It can serve as an icebreaker. This game is a great way to get to know others and their experiences better. This is especially beneficial for kids, as they discover things they have in common with others.

2. It allows them to have fun while learning about their environment. Playing interactive games can become a great avenue for learning, which is especially true for young kids. Fun and educational activities for children, as well as games like Never Have I Ever, encourage active participation and better engagement, sharpen their focus and attention, and hone their ability to recall their own experiences as they share things they have already done or haven’t done.

3. It can teach them the value of honesty.  This game is about admitting what they have or haven’t done yet, so honesty is crucial! Playing this game may make children realize that lying for the sake of winning isn’t worth it.

4. It can teach them that losing a game isn’t all that bad! Never Have I Ever will eventually result in someone winning the game – and sometimes that person won’t be your kid. With your encouragement and support, they may realize it’s okay to lose.

How to Play A Kid-Friendly Never Have I Ever Game

For the classic game version, you can use as many kids as there are present, though the least number of players should be three.

Here’s how to play it:

  • Choose the first player.
  • This player would start the game by saying, “Never have I ever,” followed by something they’ve never done before. Something like, “Never have I ever gone skiing.”
  • Look at the other players! Those who have done what was mentioned – in this case, have gone skiing – must put one of their ten fingers down. Those who haven’t gone skiing yet should keep their fingers up.
  • The next player gives their version of “Never have I ever.”
  • The game continues as players take turns – until one player has put down all their fingers.
  • The last player with any fingers up by the end of the game is the winner!

Alternatively, as the host, you can read “Never have I ever” statements from a pre-made list of questions instead of having the kids come up with their own. Just be sure that the questions you have with you are suitable for kids, though!

Different Ways of Playing Never Have I Ever

Give your game a few twists here and there!

Option 1

Each kid starts with ten points. Then, ask them to come up with their version of a “Never have I ever” statement that they think no one else in the group has ever done. Each one will get to say them out loud.

If others have done the thing, then they lose a point. But if no one in the group has ever done the thing, then the player who said “Never have I ever” loses a point.

The game ends when one kid gets down to zero points.

Option 2

Give each kid two paddles labeled “I Have!” and “Not Me!”

Next, have a player draw a card from a pile with different “Never have I ever” statements and read them aloud. Players use their paddles to answer. Everyone who answers “I Have!” loses a point.

The game ends when one kid loses all of their ten points!
