Ingredients
- Wonton Wrappers – You can find wonton wrappers in the refrigerated section of the grocery store, or you can use fresh gyoza wrappers. Sometimes they are in the produce department at my local store.
- Cream Cheese – I like to use full-fat cream cheese for this recipe. Lower fat options can be used, but are not as creamy as the full fat variety.
- Cherry Pie Filling – You can make your own or just open up a can of cherry pie filling and use it as is.
- Sour Cream – The sour cream adds a nice tang to the filling and helps balance out the sweetness of the cherry pie filling
Substitutions
Greek Yogurt: Instead of sour cream you can use greek yogurt if you prefer.
Strawberry Pie Filling: If you don’t like cherries, feel free to use strawberry pie filling or raspberry instead.

Honey: Drizzle some honey over the top of your wontons for a little bit of sweetness.

How to Make Cherry Cheesecake Dessert Wontons
Making these cheesecake wontons is so easy. Just follow the instructions below and you will have a crispy and sweet treat that your whole family will love in no time at all.
Step 1: Mix together the cheesecake filling
In a large bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered icing sugar, vanilla extract and greek yogurt or sour cream until smooth and well-combined.
Step 2: Lay out the wonton wrappers on a cutting board
Lay a few wontons out on a cutting board and place a wet paper towel over the remaining wonton wrappers to keep them from drying out.
Step 3: Fill the wontons
Scoop 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture and 1 teaspoon of the cherry pie filling onto the center of each wonton wrapper.
Step 4: Seal the wontons closed
Brush the edges of each wonton wrapper with a bit of water and then folder over into a triangle shape, pressing to seal and remove all air from the wonton. Repeat with all wonton wrappers.
Step 5: Heat the oil
Place the cooking oil in a heavy pan or dutch oven and heat to 300F.
Step 6: Fry the wontons
Fry the wontons 3-4 at a time until lightly golden, flipping over halfway through cooking, about 3 minutes each batch. Repeat until all wontons are fried. Drain the wontons on a paper towel or cooling rack to remove the excess oil.

Pro Tips
Here are a few tips to make sure that your wontons turn out perfectly every time that you make them.
- For the crispiest wontons, make sure not to overcrowd the pot when frying.
- If you are having trouble getting your wontons to stick, you can use an egg white and water mixture to help. However plain water worked just fine for me.
- If you don’t have a thermometer, you can tell that the oil is hot enough for frying when a small piece of wonton wrapper dropped into it sizzles and crisps up quickly.
- Use your favorite oil for deep frying, I prefer to use canola oil, but you could also use vegetable oil.
- Sprinkle the top of these with powdered sugar, or drizzle with chocolate sauce while they are still warm.
