Ingredients

Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken ingredients.

You only need a few simple ingredients to help you make this tangy, yet easy recipe. This is a great meal for the entire family.

  • Chicken thighs –  I used boneless skinless chicken thighs for this recipe. They are slightly fatty, which leads to a nice flavor for this recipe.
  • Teriyaki sauce – My favorite teriyaki sauce is Kikkoman or Panda Express.

Substitutions

Chicken: Instead of using chicken thighs, you could also use boneless skinless chicken breasts for this recipe.

Sauce: Instead of a store-bought teriyaki sauce, you can make your own sauce. If you have a gluten sensitivity, try this gluten free teriyaki sauce recipe

Variations / Options / Add-Ins

This teriyaki recipe is great as it is, but you could also top your chicken with other additional flavors if desired.

Green Onions – A sprinkle of sliced green onions can add a nice flavor punch.

Sesame Seeds – Sprinkle some sesame seeds onto the chicken for an added crunch.

How to Make Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken

Making this air fryer chicken recipe is simple. Just follow the instructions below and you will have a tasty meal in no time at all.

Step 1: Mix together the marinade and chicken

In a large bowl or dish, add cut chicken. You want to cut the chicken into bite-size pieces. Top with the marinade, salt, and pepper.

Step 2: Marinate the chicken

Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to marinate. This will allow the sauce to seep into the chicken to seal in the flavor and juices.

Step 3: Add the chicken to a pan

Pour chicken and marinade into a pie pan and place in the air fryer basket.

Pro Tips

Making this tasty dish at home in the air fryer can be easy to do following a few helpful tips.

  • Save time by prepping all of your ingredients ahead of time.
  • If you are planning on making multiple batches, use two pans and split the marinade between them.
  • Make sure the chicken is fully cooked before serving.
  • If you are using chicken breasts instead of chicken thighs, you might need to reduce the cook time by a couple minutes to not overcook the chicken.
  • If you want to add more flavor to your sauce, you can add garlic and ginger to the sauce ingredients.
  • I like to try to get my chicken in a single layer in the pan if I can. However, if you can’t, make sure to stir your chicken half-way through the cooking time.
  • If you need a gluten-free version of this dish, make your own homemade teriyaki sauce in a small saucepan with tamari sauce or coconut aminos, brown sugar, and seasonings.
  • To avoid the mess of spillage, you can line your air fryer basket with foil before you add the pan.
