You only need a handful of simple ingredients to help you make these delicious cookies. All of these ingredients are easy to find at your local grocery store.

sugar cookies – Any type of pre-baked cookies. You can purchase them from the bakery or bake them yourself.

white candy melts – Candy melts are best for dipping. I purchase them online or at my local big box store.

candy canes – I like to use mini candy canes, but any type of peppermint candy cane will do.

Substitutions

Peppermints: If you can’t find candy canes, you can use peppermints or Starlight mints.

Candy Melts: Instead of using white candy melts, you can use red or green colored candy melts for more festive colors.

Variations / Options / Add-Ins

Here are a few different ways that you can personalize this easy recipe.

Chocolate: Instead of white chocolate, you can use milk or dark chocolate chips instead.

Cookies: Instead of sugar cookies you could also use chocolate or even peanut butter cookies instead.

Peppermint: If you are not a fan of peppermint, you can leave them off or replace them with colored sprinkles.

Pro Tips

Here are a few tips to make sure that your cookies turn out perfectly.

  • If you want to use homemade sugar cookies instead of store-bought, make sure that your cookies are completely cooled before you dip them in the melted white candy melts.
  • While you are dipping, if the candy melts start to thicken back up, you can pop it back in the microwave for 10-second increments to help thin it out again.
  • The candy canes will stick best if you do them right after dipping the cookies in the chocolate. If you wait too long, the candy will not stick as well.
  • I use a ziploc bag and a rolling pin to make my crushed candy canes, but you can also a food processor if you prefer.
  • If you want a little peppermint flavor to your white chocolate add a couple of drops of peppermint extract to the melted white chocolate.
  • I’ve found that it’s easier to apply the candy canes by sprinkling them on top of the cookies as soon as you dip them.
