How to Make Instant Pot Vanilla Yogurt

This recipe comes together in several simple steps: gather your ingredients and get ready for a delicious and creamy yogurt.

Step 1: Add milk to the pressure cooker

Add your milk to the Instant pot.

Milk inside the Instant Pot

Step 2: Press the yogurt button

Press the yogurt button twice for the display to show the word “boil.” Use the lid for the Instant Pot to cover and close. It will take about 30 minutes.

Step 3: Check the temperature of your milk

Check your milk to make sure that it has reached a temperature of 180°. If it has not reached 180°, press cancel on your instant pot and turn it on sauté mode until it reaches that temperature.

Step 4: Cool down the milk

Remove the inner pot from the Instant Pot to cool to 105°. I placed my inner pot in the sink with water and ice which sped up the process. (You can allow it to drop in temperature by sitting on the counter, or water in the sink without ice.)

Step 5: Remove any film that has formed on top

Once you have reached the temperature, remove your inner pot from the ice bath. Remove any skin that might have started forming on the top.

Step 6: Mix together vanilla, yogurt, and a small amount of milk

In a small bowl, add your vanilla, 2 tablespoons of yogurt, and a little bit of the milk from your pot. Mix together until you have a thin consistency.

Step 7: Add the mixture to the pot

Once completely mixed together, add back to the pot. Mix well.

Step 8: Return the inner pot to the pressure cooker

Add your inner pot back to your instant pot. Close the lid and close the sealing valve.

Step 9: Pressure cook the yogurt

Press “yogurt” on your Instant Pot and set it to 8 hours.

Step 10: Chill the yogurt

Once the time has been completed, turn off your Instant Pot, and transfer the inner pot to the refrigerator for at least four hours or overnight.

Can I use regular yogurt instead of greek yogurt for this recipe?

    Reply
    • You can try it, but the result will not be as creamy or thick. Greek yogurt has a much denser and creamier consistency than regular yogurt.

  2. I cannot have dairy so I was wondering if anyone has made yogurt using Almond or Coconut milk?

    Reply
    • Unfortunately, this recipe wouldn’t turn out if you used almond or coconut milk.
