Children can often get afraid in the night, so it is important to make their bedroom somewhere that they feel safe. Since not having a safe environment to live in can impact a child’s mental health, this point is of utmost importance. In this article I will offer tips for making a safe & cozy kids room.

Giving your children a room in the far corner of your home is not a good idea because children feel insecure in the night and even a nightmare can send them shouting in the corridor in the middle of the night. It is important to make a safe and cozy room where your children would be eager to settle in. Moreover, providing kids a private space of their own would help them bloom.

Here are some ideas to create a safe and beautiful room for your kids:

Distance

The distance between your own room and your kid’s room should be minimal. The thought of a parent being nearby would make your child feel safe and secure. Since children count on their parents for almost anything, including security, they expect that their parents would come to help if anything goes wrong. If you have a room next to your room or just opposite to your room, make it your kid’s room if you want your kid to have a good night’s sleep. However, if you think all this is not possible in your current house you can also sell it and buy a new one.

Use furniture wall straps

Using beautiful furniture to decorate your kid’s room is a good idea; however, choosing furniture for your child carefully and placing them in a way that they will not fall and injure your child is also important. You may think that a cupboard should stay in your kid’s room, but when your kid would climb it, the thing can move forward and fall on top of your kid due to the weight exerted. This could seriously injure the child. To make furniture safe for children, lock the furniture to the wall with furniture wall straps.

Safe Windows

Children are unpredictable. They can suddenly engage in scary and risky activities. One of the scariest things is when children find a window open and climb out. For example, a kid may see a bird or butterfly through his or her room’s window and try to go out and chase it through the window. This is potentially very dangerous. The safe room for your children should have safe windows. This can be achieved with the use of mesh window guard or window stopper.

Electric Outlets

Children are curious. They try to replicate whatever you do, even things like using the electric outlets for any purpose. This is potentially hazardous, especially when you are not present in the kid’s room. Removing electric outlets is not a solution because they are needed to power a lamp, for vacuum cleaning, for CD plays etc. You can make your kid’s room safer by installing safe plates for electric outlets. You can conceal electric wire by using wire guard.

Comfortable Nursing Nook

You should consider creating a comfortable nursing space, so you can easily feed your kid during late-nights. A glider and ottoman are good choices. You can even consider slipcovered gliders with covers that can be effortlessly cleaned.

Lighting

Your toddler may wake up at 2 a.m. and start crying and you will probably find it hard to get him to her back to sleep soon. Lighting plays the role here. To help get a baby to sleep, you should use soft light instead of a dim light to prevent upsetting the baby. Adding a table lamp for ambient light can be helpful.

When it comes to our kids’ room, we have different levels of nervousness. Some might be more nervous and careful while other might be lesser. The factors elucidated and ideas discussed in this article can help you make a safe and cosy room for your kid. However, there are other factors to it like the size of your house, layout, and elements in your child’s room. You can always research more ideas to make your child safer and comfortable in his or her room.
