These printable tangram people make a great kids activity and can really make the brain work to figure out all the different puzzles. I love activities for kids that I can print off at home and have ready in minutes.
WHAT ARE TANGRAMS?
Tangrams are Chinese geometric puzzles. They are a square that is cut into seven pieces. These pieces are put together to form shapes.
The object of the puzzle is to use all seven pieces to form a specific shape. Some people call these tans.
Tangrams were invented in China and have been around for over 200 years.
Each tangram has specific geometrical shapes. There are 2 large right triangles, 1 medium sized right triangle, 2 small right triangles, 1 small square, and 1 parallelogram.
WHY PLAY WITH TANGRAMS?
There are some great reasons to play with tangrams. These puzzles have been known to boost our visual-spatial skills.
Some researchers believe that when younger children play with tangrams it is priming their brains for math in the future.
The tangrams definitely help kids identify shapes. It also seems to help children have a more positive outlook about geometry.
Any time children do activities that are problem-solving in nature it is a good thing and will help them across the board.
HOW DO I PLAY WITH TANGRAMS?
There are different ways to play a tangrams game. One easy way to play is to just let children create different shapes on their own from the tangram puzzle pieces.
The other way is to use tangrams as a puzzle. The player is shown a shape and they try to use the pieces to recreate that shape. This is the way my printable tangram works.
PRINTABLE TANGRAM PEOPLE
This printable tangram people version is colorful and great for kids and adults too.
Start off by printing off the tangrams and the puzzle cards. I like to print these off on white cardstock
so that they can be reused over and over again.
If you want these to last a really long time then use a personal laminator
to laminate each piece. Be sure to cut the pieces out before laminating so they have a good seal on every side! This also helps the pieces stay clean because they can be wiped down easily.
Cut the shapes out and then try to make the different shapes of people on the cards. There are eight different tangram pattern cards to try out.
It is also fun to see what people shapes you can come up with on your own!
