Ingredients

You will need a few ingredients to make this delicious cake, but you should have most of these ingredients on hand in your pantry already.

  • unsalted butter, softened
  • brown sugar
  • egg
  • milk
  • unsweetened applesauce
  • vanilla
  • cinnamon
  • ground nutmeg
  • ground cloves
  • all-purpose flour
  • baking soda
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • halved pecans
  • brown sugar
  • Caramel sauce for topping, optional
  • water

Substitutions

Butter: You can substitute the butter for margarine if you prefer. I would not recommend using oil in this recipe as it will make the cake too greasy.

Brown sugar: You can use white sugar in this recipe if you don’t have brown sugar on hand. The cake will be a little less moist with the white sugar, but it will still taste great.

Step 7: Pressure cook the cake

Close the Instant Pot and turn the valve to sealing and then set it to a manual pressure cooking time of 60 minutes and then allow for a natural pressure release before removing the lid.

Once the pressure has been released, carefully remove the lid and then use a towel to remove any excess water from the top of the cake.

Step 9: Let the cake cool before serving

Remove the cake from the springform pan and place it on a cooling rack to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve with caramel sauce if desired.

Tips

Want to make sure your cake turns out perfectly every time? Use these tips to get the best results.

  • If you don’t have a springform pan, you can use a regular cake pan.
  • You can use a silicone sling or a foil sling to help you remove the pan from the Instant Pot.
  • The cake will be very moist, so it is best to let it cool completely before slicing and serving.
  • Be careful to not overmix the batter or the cake will be tough.
  • If you want a more traditional applesauce cake flavor, you can omit the spices and just use 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
