  • 2 tablespoons Matcha Green Tea Powder

  • 3-6 drops purple food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste

Substitutions and Additions

Strawberry syrup: Many people prefer mixing dried berries mixed with white mocha syrup as a substitute for strawberry syrup. Slightly different in taste and color, but still good nonetheless.

Purple food coloring: if purple food coloring isn’t available in your pantry or you are just not a big fan of artificial food coloring, you can always opt to make one from natural ingredients. A great and healthier substitute for this is extracting juice from blackberries to get that purple dye.

How to Make Starbucks-like Dragon Frappuccino

A dragon drink frappuccino, yes, sounds a bit intimidating. But, it is actually a fun and easy thing to do once you’ve read all the steps below.

Step1

Start by getting two separate bowls for your ice. In each bowl, put 2 cups of ice each. I like separating them, so it will be easier for me when I start the process since I will be using them separately.

Step 2

Then, get two separate cups for the milk. You will also be dividing your milk in half because it will be used in different procedures. Put 1 cup of milk in each cup.

Step 3

In a mixing cup, add the first half portion of milk and 1 ½ tablespoon sugar. Stir it to dissolve the sugar lightly. Then, add in ½ teaspoon vanilla bean paste and matcha green tea powder. Stir again to make sure everything is well incorporated.

Step 4

In a blender, add the matcha milk mixture that you made. Now, remember the ice that you divided earlier? Get the first half portion of it and add it into the blender. Cover your blender with its lid and set the blender at high speed. Make sure that everything is well combined. Set this mixture aside first by pouring it back into a mixing cup. You will need that blender again.

Step 5

In a separate mixing cup, add the remaining ½ portion of milk and combine it with the remaining sugar. Stir to lightly dissolve the sugar, then add the remaining vanilla bean paste and purple food coloring. Aside from the berries, we will add later; the purple food coloring gives the drink its magical purple swirl. Stir again to incorporate everything well.

Step 6

Get your blender again, and make sure you washed it off first so that the colors from the matcha mixture won’t blend in with the purple milk mixture. Add in your raspberries, purple milk mixture, and the remaining ½ ice portion. Blend in a high-speed setting until everything is smooth and well combined.

Step 7

Get your glass and rim it with strawberry syrup for additional design. Then, alternately spoon portions of the matcha ice mixture you’ve set aside and the raspberry ice mixture into your glass in layers to bring out that dragon fantasy.

Step 8

Get your dragon fruit and slice up some small pieces. Put some pieces on top of your frappe for garnishing.

Step 9

Dig in and bon appetit! Enjoy it with your blueberry almond baked oatmeal cups.

Add-Ins

There are a lot of fun ways to enjoy this drink. All the essential dragon frappuccino ingredients are listed above, but if you’re feeling like you want a little extra, here are some things you can add to your drink:

  • Whipped cream
  • Colored sanding sugar
  • Sprinkles
  • Coconut syrup
  • Dried berries
  • Mocha syrup

Tips

If you choose to use the substitute purple food coloring instead, beware of the amount you put in. This will have a stronger flavor compared to the artificial ones since it is extracted from a fruit. Try starting little by little and adjust as needed. In extracting colors from natural foods, there are a couple of techniques you can use:

  • Boil the blackberries in water until their color is extracted.
  • Put ¼ cup blackberries and about 2 teaspoon of water in a food processor, and blend until smooth. Strain the mixture to get rid of the blackberry’s skin before storing it in a container.
  • If you have a juicer, just throw in your blackberries, and you will have your natural food coloring in seconds.

As a side note, though, you should manage your expectations when using natural food colorings. Most natural-based food colors have a more subtle hue than artificial ones, so they may not come off as vibrant as you want.
