These Reindeer Hot Chocolate Gift Bags are perfect as stocking stuffers, party favors or inexpensive gifts.
They’re adorable and so easy to put together. Such a perfect way to spread some Christmas spirit around.
If you love giving gifts during the holiday season, but also like to stick to a budget, these Reindeer Hot Chocolate Gift Bags are the perfect solution for bestowing some holiday cheer to several people without breaking the bank.
These hot cocoa bags are a cute gift and only take a few minutes and a few items to create. Give them to your kids’ teachers or your neighbors, add them to a holiday gift basket along with gingerbread babies treat bags, or hand them out as a party favor at a Christmas party.
I like to make up a bunch to keep in a basket by the front door so I can gift them to delivery people during the holiday season.

๐ฅ Ingredients
You only need three ingredients and some equipment (look for the equipment heading below) to make these Reindeer Hot Chocolate Gift Bags. Gather everything you need and start assembling.
Hot cocoa packets: You can use any brand and flavor you prefer. One packet is needed per bag.
- Mini chocolate chips: One handful is needed for each bag. Any brand is fine.
- Mini marshmallows: Same thing – use any brand, and you’ll need a handful.

๐ฅ Equipment Needed / Helpful Tools
You need a few supplies to make this homemade gift, but they should all be easy to find. You might already have some of it in your craft supply stash.
- Cone-shaped cellophane gift bags with twist ties: This is where you’ll layer all of the ingredients and will be the base for making the reindeer’s face.
- Googly eyes: 10-15 mm googly eyes work best โ this size is large enough to be noticeable but not so big that they overpower the design. If you’re using larger cones or want a bolder look, you could opt for 20 mm googly eyes, or for smaller cones or a more subtle appearance, 8 mm eyes would also work.
- Red craft pom poms: You need one for each bag for the reindeer’s nose.
- Holiday ribbon: It’s amazing how many cute ribbon choices there are available. You can choose any one you want to tie on the top of the cones.
- Low-temperature hot glue gun: The low-temperature glue gun is safer to use when kids are helping with the craft project. You will need to glue on the antlers, pom pom and googly eyes (unless you have the self-adhesive ones).
- Black pipe cleaners (or brown pipe cleaners if you prefer): One pipe cleaner is needed per bag because you cut it in half to make the antlers.
๐ Variations / Options / Add-Ins
Reindeer hot chocolate cones are adorable and customizable. Here are some ways you can make them extra special.
Add to the Cocoa Flavor: Add crushed peppermint candies to the mix for a minty flavor or include caramel bits and a pinch of sea salt for salted caramel cocoa.
You can also blend in cinnamon, nutmeg, or a pinch of chili powder for a festive spice.
Different Chips: Use white chocolate chips for extra creaminess or butterscotch chips for a sweet caramel-like flavor.
Different Themes: Make snowman cones with white hot chocolate mix, white marshmallows, and blue sprinkles. Create Santa cones by layering the top with red sprinkles and white marshmallows for a Santa hat effect.

๐ช How to Make Reindeer Hot Chocolate Cones
If you’re a wondermom wannabe like me and are NOT crafty by nature, don’t worry because this craft is super easy to make.
Step 1: Empty Hot Cocoa Mix
Empty one packet of hot cocoa into the bottom of a clear cone-shaped cellophane bag, making sure the hot chocolate powder settles into the tip of the bag.
Step 2: Add Chocolate Chips
Next, add a handful of mini chocolate chips on top of the hot chocolate mix.
Step 3: Layer Marshmallows
Then, add a layer of mini marshmallows on top of the chocolate chips.
Step 4: Close the bag
Twist the top of the bag closed. For a male reindeer, use a twist tie (or small rubber band) to secure the top of the bag.
For a female reindeer, tie a ribbon into a bow at the top of the bag.
Step 5: Make Antlers
Now it’s time to make the antlers. Cut each black or brown pipe cleaner in half and twist them into antlers. This is where you can let your creativity guide you. Here are the two varieties I opted for:
Step 6: Attach Antlers
Attach the reindeer antlers to the hot cocoa bag. You can use a low-temperature hot glue gun to attach the antlers to the back of the top of the bag, one on each side.
Step 7: Attach the Nose
It’s time to give the reindeer a red pom pom nose. Use the glue gun to attach a red pom-pom to the front of the filled treat bag. I suppose you can use black or brown pom poms, but I’m partial to Rudolph.
Step 8: Attach the Eyes
Finally, attach two googly eyes to the front of your treat bag just below the marshmallow layer inside the bag. If you aren’t using self-adhesive eyes, attach them with two small glue dots.
Your male reindeer should look like this:
And the females should look like this:

How Much Hot Cocoa Does One Cone Make?
Each cone is intended to make one standard cup of hot cocoa so the recipient can simply empty the contents into a cup of hot water or milk and stir.
