Pro Tips

Here are a few tips to make sure that your bar cookies turn out perfectly every time that you make them.

  • Make sure that you are using melted butter and not softened butter for this recipe.
  • Measure out all of your ingredients before you begin baking, so that everything is ready when needed.
  • Also, be sure to let these bars cool completely before cutting and serving so that they hold their shape.
  • I prefer to use unsalted butter when baking, but salted butter can be used instead.
  • To test for doneness insert a toothpick into the center of the cookie bars, if it comes out with a few moist crumbs then they are done.
  • If you don’t have parchment paper, you can spray your baking dish well with nonstick cooking spray instead. Make sure to spray the sides of the pan well.
  • If you want to add a little saltiness to this recipe, sprinkle some chopped pretzels or chocolate-covered pretzels on the top of the bars and then press them down with a spatula.
