The Daily 5 Cleaning System

I’ve tried a lot of cleaning strategies and schedules over the years in my effort to find a system that helps me keep my home clean. Though I am a creature of habit, the regular schedules where you do specific jobs on certain days (e.g. clean bathrooms every Monday) never seem to work for the long-term for me since circumstances outside my control or other schedule demands always seem to interfere.

Snow days, chaperoning field trips, unexpected car trouble that requires a trip to the shop–any number of things can occur that cause me to shuffle the schedule. And because I’m a creature of habit, once the schedule is thrown off, I have a hard time getting back on track.

The Daily 5 Cleaning System

So, I developed a system of my own that gives me the consistency I crave but also allows for adjustments without making me feel like I’ve fallen behind. I call it the Daily 5 Cleaning System. We all know that keeping a house clean is far easier than getting a house clean.

However, once I started working I realized I didn’t have an hour or two each day to devote to cleaning. I can always find 5 minutes though. That is why every task on the Daily 5 Cleaning List is one that can be done in 5 minutes.

To keep your entire house clean, you’ll need to tackle about 5 of these tasks each day so that you can accomplish all of them on a weekly basis. On days you have a solid 25-minute block of time, you can knock out all 5 at once. On busier days, you might have to do spread them out throughout the day when you can fit them in.

Don’t forget to recruit other family members. If you are married with two kids, your husband and kids can each take one task a day, leaving you with only two!

Of course, if you live in a really big house, you might need to choose more than 5 total tasks each day since you’ll have more rooms to clean which is when those extra helpers will really come in handy.

  1. I tried many times to print the Daily 5. But I subscribed and went into the link that was emailed to me for free printables. Every time I find the Daily 5 and try to print it, it asks me to subscribe again! So frustrated I finally had to give up. Looks awesome though.

  9. This is a great list. And even though I would much rather pay someone to come in and do all this for me, I have to wait until I hit the lottery for that 🙂

  13. Good list! We’ve made our own little cleaning schedule too. And why is it so hard to get back on schedule once it is thrown off?!
