Air Fryer Monte Cristo sandwiches are crispy battered sandwiches that are filled with ham and melty swiss cheese. This homemade sandwich is a take on the classic Croque Monsieur sandwich.

To make this air fryer cheesy sandwich recipe you only need ten ingredients. One quick trip to the grocery store for some budget friendly items and you are ready to make these Air Fryer Monte Cristo Sandwiches.

  • pancake mix
  • egg
  • milk
  • water
  • vanilla
  • powdered sugar
  • raspberry jelly
  • Swiss cheese
  • slices of ham
  • Texas toast

Substitutions

Turkey: Use turkey in place of the ham if you prefer turkey.

American Cheese: Don’t like swiss cheese? Use white American cheese or provolone instead.

How to Make Air Fryer Monte Cristo

Follow these four easy steps and you will have a crispy and flavorful homemade Air Fryer Monte Cristo sandwich.

Step 1: Mix your batter

Mix milk, water, vanilla, and pancake mix together in a bowl. Make sure batter is thick, add pancake mix to thicken.

Step 2: Assemble the sandwiches

Assemble the sandwich like this: bread, 2 slices of cheese, 5 slices of ham, 2 slices of cheese, and bread. Using toothpicks, stab the corners of the sandwich to lock both slices of bread together.

Step 3: Dip the sandwiches

Dip the sandwich in the batter on both sides and place the sandwich in a lined air fryer basket.

Step 4: Air Fryer the sandwiches

Cook on 370 for 7 minutes, flip and cook for 3 minutes. Remove and serve with powdered sugar dusting and dip in some jelly.

Nutella: Add nutella to the inside of your sandwiches for an additional sweet taste.

Peanut Butter and Jelly: Leave the meat out of your sandwich and use peanut butter and jelly instead for a kid friendly twist.
