Warm weather is quickly approaching and a summer home maintenance checklist will get your home and lawn ready.

Since summer has longer days, which means more time available to spend outdoors, you want to make sure your home is ready for that. It’s hard to remember all of the things that need to be done around the house to get ready for summer, especially since some of those things are only done once or twice a year.
A printable checklist will help you stay on top of those home repairs and updates to keep your house in tip top shape so you’ll be ready to enjoy a relaxing summer.

What is a Summer Home Maintenance Checklist?
Each season of the year brings with it different tasks and challenges when it comes to upkeep on our homes. A house is one of our biggest investments and it is important to keep it in good condition.
A summer home maintenance checklist is just a list of tasks that may need to be done on your home or yard as warmer weather months approach. Getting these tasks done ahead of the season will make your life much easier because everything will be ready for you when you’re ready to use it/enjoy it.
If you check each task off as you finish it, you’ll be able to stay on track and you’ll feel great about all you’ve accomplished. Then, when you see you’ve completed all of the tasks on the list for your yard, you’ll be all ready to invite people over for a backyard party with food cooked on the grill.
Summer Home Maintenance Tips
If you are a new home owner (or even if you’re not, you could probably use the tips as a reminder) you may not know the best way to accomplish the home maintenance tasks on the checklist.
Here are some summer home maintenance tips and tricks to keep your property in working order:
- Do a home and yard walk through and look at every single inch of your home and yard. Take notes on the checklist and mark off things that do not need to be done. Add items that may not be on the list.
- Assemble a seasonal maintenance kit with essentials like gloves, cleaning cloths, all-purpose cleaner, silicone lubricant spray, caulk, spare air filters and garden tools. Store it in a labeled bin for easy access every summer.
- Wrap a damp microfiber cloth around a butter knife to easily clean between air vent slats. It gets into the tight spaces a vacuum can’t.
- Slip an old pillowcase over each fan blade and pull it off slowly. Dust stays inside the case instead of falling everywhere.
- Use your phone or smart home device to set recurring reminders to check and change HVAC or water filters.
- Toss a handful of ice cubes and a few citrus peels (like lemon or orange) into the garbage disposal. It sharpens the blades and freshens the drain at the same time.
- When power washing your deck, siding, or driveway, start with the lowest pressure setting and test a small area to avoid damage. Use a fan nozzle for broader surfaces.
- Freeze a damp sponge in a zip-top bag and use it as a mini ice pack to cool your neck while working outside in the heat.
- If your sprinklers are clogged with mineral deposits, place vinegar ice cubes on top of them and run the system. The vinegar will help break down buildup.

Equipment Needed / Helpful Tools for Printables
Printer: This one is a great budget printer. If you’re willing to spend just a little more though, this is a better option. And if you’re looking for an all-in-one home office machine, this one does it all, has high reviews and includes 2 years of ink.
Ink cartridges: Speaking of ink, this is where the cost of using printables can really add up! To save BIG on ink, buy it from CompAndSave.com. It’s substantially cheaper than anywhere else and they carry ink for all major printer brands and models.
Printer paper or cardstock: If you’re printing for one-time, quick use, print on regular printer paper. If you need the printout to hold up to being handled often or if you plan to laminate it to use it multiple times, choose cardstock.
Laminator: Laminating your printable is an inexpensive way to use it multiple times. Just use dry erase markers and wipe off when you’re done so you can use it again! Alternately, you can cover the printable with clear contact paper to achieve the same thing or place the printable in clear page protectors.
Binder or Folder: If you’re using page protectors for your printables, binders are such an easy way to keep them together and organized. I love this colorful set. If you prefer to stick with standard white though, this set is highly rated and very affordable. And if you need larger binders, this set is terrific. If you go with folders, I like these.
Storage boxes: I like to keep my printable checklists and packing lists in this file organizer.
Hole punch: If you don’t use page protectors but want to use binders to organize your printables, a hole puncher will be your best friend. This is the one you want if you’ll be punching holes in several pages at a time and want to do so easily. And this bargain option is ideal if you don’t mind limiting your hole punching to 2-3 pages at a time.
Markers and Pens: The right writing instrument makes a big difference! Depending on what I’m writing, I have different preferences. Here are my favorites for each type:
- Ball point pens – These are the ones I use for regular note taking
- Gel pens – My favorites for journaling
- Erasable gel pens – I use these for my calendar so I still have pretty colors but can easily change things if my schedule changes
- Fine point permanent markers – These are my favorite for coloring
- Felt tip pens – I use these on Post-It notes for my own reminders or notes for my family
- Markers – These are my favorites for kids since there are no caps to lose and the kids can easily open and close them on their own
Clipboard: I love this clipboard for on-the-go while I’m walking around the house and yard seeing what needs to be completed.

Great article! One more tip to consider is inspecting your washing machine hoses for any signs of wear and tear. Over time, these hoses can develop cracks or bulges, which might lead to leaks or even bursts. Check both the hot and cold water hoses and replace them if you see any damage. Opt for stainless steel braided hoses as they are more durable and less likely to burst compared to rubber ones. This simple inspection can help prevent water damage and save you from costly repairs.
Thanks! This is a great tip, thank you for sharing it with us.
