Do you ever look around your home and wonder what on earth you’re going to do with all the clutter? Clutter can quickly become overwhelming, but did you know that you can turn clutter into cash? Whether you have a yard sale or sell clothing through an app, there are lots of ways to make extra money as you unclutter your home.

5 Ways to Make Extra Money as You Unclutter Your Home

1. Have a Yard Sale

One of the most tried and true ways to make extra money from decluttering your home is to have a yard sale. The key to having a great yard sale is to make the area look like a store.

Hang all the clothing in one area, place the books on a shelf in another area, etc. The more appealing the items look, the more apt people are to buy them.

2. Resell Collectibles Through eBay

EBay is an excellent site for selling collectible items. The reason being is there are people on there looking for those items.

People don’t usually browse eBay without having an item in mind. This means that you can usually unload those items fairly quickly.

You should spend time researching the items so that you know a fair selling price. It’s always good to list a bit higher than what you want for the item and let buyers make an offer on the item.

If you sell items through the auction feature, make sure you put a reserve on any high-value items.

3. Use Local Groups

It can cost a lot of money to ship larger items. Some items can cost over a $100 or more to ship.

Plus, it’s a hassle to pack things for shipping and take them to the post office or UPS store. Skip that.

If you have large items, such as a dusty treadmill, consider selling the items through Facebook yard sale groups. Someone local, who’s willing to do all the heavy lifting, can buy the item and haul it away from your home.

Of course, you’re not limited to selling large, heavy items locally. If you just want to skip the hassle of setting up a yard sale, these groups are a great way to sell your stuff without getting up before dawn and sitting in your driveway all day.

Just go to the search bar in Facebook and type “[your city name] yard sale” and you’ll likely find at least one, and probably several, groups. Also, try “[your city name] buy and sell” if you don’t find any yard sale groups.

If you’re not a Facebook user, don’t worry. There are several apps that help you buy and sell locally very easily!

Several apps let you sell your unwanted items by simply snapping a picture and adding a few details. Your items only show up for buyers searching within a certain distance so no shipping hassles to worry about.

Here are some of the most popular apps for buying and selling locally:

4. Unload Craft Supplies on Etsy

If you’re a crafter and need to clean out your craft room, you can make some extra cash by selling your craft supplies on Etsy. You can even sell any of the crafts you’ve made through there as well.

This is a great way to destash your craft room so that you can actually find a place to work on your crafts. Also, it will give you more money to buy supplies you actually need.

5. Sell Clothing Using Apps

Last, but not least, if you want to make selling clothing super easy, use Poshmark, Mercari or ThredUp. All of these apps make it super simple to list and sell items.

Poshmark and Mercari are both peer-to-peer apps. In other words, you sell directly to another person who plans to wear the clothing.

Mercari does have lower seller fees, but Poshmark is extremely popular. It’s free to list the items on both apps, but Poshmark charges 20% of the selling price while Mercari charges only 10-percent.

ThredUp is an online consignment shop so you sell your clothing items to ThredUp who then manages the listing and selling to someone else. You’ll make much less than selling the items yourself, but if you have lots of items to get rid of, it’s definitely much faster and easier than listing each item and coordinating individual sales.

If you need to refresh your own wardrobe after you’re uncluttering, make sure to sign up for these apps using the special offers below so you have free money to use!

  • Poshmark – Use code WONDERMOMWANNAB to get a $5 credit when you sign up
  • Mercari – Use code PKYCFZ to get a $10 credit when you sign up
  • ThredUp – Sign up via this link to get a $10 credit

The clutter in your home doesn’t have to stay in your home. You can actually turn that trash into treasure by selling it. Whether you sell clothing on Poshmark or have a yard sale, you can easily make extra money while you unclutter your home.
