I hate cleaning, but I love a clean house so I’m always on the hunt for cleaning hacks. Why spend hours every day trying to keep your house clean when we could be spending that time doing something fun?
The cleaning hacks below are all tricks that will help you get (and keep) your home clean in less time and with less effort. If you want to work up a sweat, you’ll have plenty of free time to hit the gym.
Bathroom Cleaning Hacks
Of all the rooms in the house, the one I most dread cleaning is the bathroom. So we’re going to start there and get it over with.
Have a clogged shower head? Fill a plastic storage bag with distilled vinegar and close it around your shower head with a rubber band. Let it soak for half an hour (or longer, depending on how clogged the shower head is).
Get rid of soap scum build up on shower doors with used dryer sheets. Just wet it and wipe away soap scum.
If you have a shower curtain instead of a glass door, I have a cleaning hack for you too. Did you know that you can wash most shower curtains and liners in your washing machine? Wash them in hot water and then hang them back up on the shower rod to dry.
While we’re letting household appliances do the work for us, go ahead and toss the toothbrush holder in the dishwasher.
As long as we’re still in the bathroom, grab the shaving cream. Rub the shaving cream on chrome surfaces and wipe away with a damp cloth to leave them sparkling. You can also use shaving cream on your bathroom mirror. Apply it with a paper towel then wet the paper towel and wipe it away.
Before we leave the bathroom, let’s clean out that neglected vent. Use a can of forced air to clean dust out of the bathroom fan.
Kitchen Cleaning Hacks
After the bathroom, the place I spend the most time cleaning in my house is the kitchen. These tips help cut down on that time.
Use Liners
A few seconds of prep work can save you tons of scrubbing time later. Line your oven and toaster oven with foil to make clean up a breeze.
Then, line your refrigerator shelves with Press n’ Seal Wrap to make cleaning up spills easy.
Get Rid of Grease and Grime
Wipe away sticky kitchen grime from most kitchen surfaces with cooking oil (mineral oil also works).
To get grimy cabinets clean make a solution of equal parts distilled vinegar and water with a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid. Use a spray bottle to mist the solution on to the cabinets. After a couple of minutes, wipe clean with a dry cloth.
Sprinkle cream of tartar on a damp sponge to easily wipe away the film that develops on small kitchen appliances (e.g. toaster ovens, stand mixers, can openers).
Save Time Cleaning Dirty Dishes
Easily clean your blender by adding a little dish soap and filling partway with water, then just blend away the mess!
Clean pans with baked on messes by placing a dryer sheet over the mess and filling the pan with warm water. Let it sit for a few minutes and then easily wipe away the mess.
General Cleaning Hacks
If you spend a lot of time on the phone, use your time wisely. Get a headset so that you have your hands free and keep moving during the entire call cleaning anything that’s dirty or folding laundry.
Did you know you can use black tea to clean mirrors? Just dip a lint-free cloth in the tea and rub the mirror in circles.
Rubber band clean cloths to tongs and use them to clean blinds.
Place a small dab of baby oil on a lint-free cloth to polish chrome. It will leave the chrome shiny and spot-resistant. You can also use mineral oil, if you prefer.
