What’s a Wondermom Wannabe? She’s a woman who endeavors every day to keep herself and her family safe, healthy, and happy and has discovered that this task is one that is difficult, and at times, exasperating. We’ve all met someone we believe IS a living, breathing Wondermom. She’s always put together, as are her kids who excel in school and athletics, and her husband who looks at her with love, desire, and respect. Her house is always immaculate. She makes the best potluck dishes and bake sale treats, volunteers in her kids’ classrooms and at her church, and thanks to her the family takes great vacations paid for by all the money she saves with her frugal spending and carefully planned savings plan. Needless to say, every time you see this family they are all smiling and clearly happy.I’m here to tell you, she doesn’t exist. Even if you think you know one of these moms, she too is simply a wannabe–she’s just a better actress than you. The truth is that for all of us, there are only so many hours in the day.
When I was a little girl, my favorite show was “Wonder Woman.” I used to spin in circles until I was falling over, willing myself to turn into Wonder Woman, even though I was pretty sure it was impossible. So, my grandmother made me a Wonder Woman costume and painted a jump rope yellow for me so that I could run around and pretend to be Wonder Woman. It wasn’t quite the same since I didn’t have an invisible plane and couldn’t run as fast as a car, but it was a lot of fun, especially when I accepted that Wonder Woman was fictitious. Apparently, I’m slow to learn a lesson because when I became a mother, I found myself spinning in figurative circles, trying to be Wonder Mom, even though I was pretty sure it was impossible. Thankfully, my costume this time came in the form of tricks and shortcuts that have helped me manage my life in a way that allows me to maintain a certain level of stability and sanity. Every day I discover more and will pass on the little bit of knowledge that happens my way via this website with the hope of helping other Wondermom Wannabes find their inner superhero.
