  • Gently insert a lollipop stick stick into the base of each Rice Krispie Treat and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Place the baking sheet in the fridge for 15-20 minutes. This firms up the treats so they’ll hold their shape when dipping.
  • Pour 5 ounces of each color (you can melt more if you need more) of Wilton candy melts into separate microwave safe bowls. Place each bowl in the microwave one at a time, heating for 30 second increments, stirring occasionally until melted.

  • Let cool for 2-3 minutes. Dip a spoon into the melted candy and let it drip — if it coats the spoon smoothly without running off too quickly, it’s ready to use.
  • Dip the Rice Krispie Treats into the melted candy covering halfway and allowing the excess to drip back into the bowl.
  • Place the treats on the baking sheet and give them each a few candy eyes.

  • Letting the chocolate fully set will take about 20-30 minutes at room temperature. If you want to speed it up, you can place the treats in the fridge for about 10-15 minutes until the chocolate hardens completely.

Notes

Pro Tips

  • If the melts are too thick, add 1 teaspoon of vegetable shortening or coconut oil to thin them out.
  • While you dipping if the candy coating starts to harden pop it back in the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds so that it loosens back up.
  • Pour the melted candy into a tall, narrow cup instead of a bowl. This makes dipping easier and ensures a smooth, even coating.
  • If the candy eyes won’t stay in place, you can add a bit of melted candy behind them and press lightly.
  • If you want to give these at a party, place each treat into a cellophane bag, and close with a twist tie or ribbon.

Recipe FAQs

How do I store the finished treats?
Store them in a single layer in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. If you need to stack them, place parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking.

Can I freeze these treats?
It’s not recommended, as freezing can cause condensation when thawed, making the candy coating sticky.

Can I make these without the lollipop stick?
Yes, you can make these without the sticks. Simply dip each treat in melted candy using a fork or by hand and then proceed with the rest of the recipe.
