- Black candy melts
- 1 package Oreo Cookies
- Shamrock sprinkles
- Airheads Extreme Bites
- Gold sugar sprinkles
- Gold coin sprinkles
Line a baking sheet with waxed paper or parchment paper.
Melt black candy melts in a microwave safe bowl (according to package directions). Heat on high for 30 seconds and stir. Repeat in 15-second increments, stirring each time, until completely melted.Do not overheat as the candy will seize and become unusable. If the candy is too thick to pour from a spoon, stir in 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or vegetable shortening. Black candy melts
It works best to do one cookie at a time. Drop cookie into melted candy and turn to coat completely.Place cookie on a fork, tapping the fork gently against the side of the bowl, allowing excess melted candy to return to the bowl. If air bubbles form, pop them with a toothpick.Place the Oreo down onto the prepared baking sheet. 1 package Oreo Cookies
While the melted candy is still wet, press some shamrock sprinkles along the bottom of the cookie. Press an Airheads Extremes Bite against the edge of the cookie at the top.

Lightly sprinkle the gold sugar sprinkles over the top portion of the cookie and also put some of the gold coin sprinkles on the top portion. If you need to, you can use the melted candy to help attach the gold coins on top of the sugar.

Allow cookies to set completely before handling or decorating further. At room temperature it will take about 20-30 minutes to set or refrigerate for faster results (10-15 minutes).
Reheat the extra black candy melts (if needed) so they are melted again. Pour into a frosting piping bag with a fine tip attached or zip top freezer bag with one small corner snipped.Outline the pot under the gold coin sprinkles as shown in the pictures. You can make a thicker line by going back over it more than once. Let the cookies set up completely before serving. Same as in Step 6, at room temperature it will take about 20-30 minutes to set or refrigerate for faster results (10-15 minutes).Serve or store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Pro Tips
- To avoid streaks in the candy coating, avoid adding water-based food coloring or liquids.
- Let dipped cookies sit at room temperature for a few minutes before refrigerating to avoid sudden temperature changes that can cause the candy coating to crack after setting.
- If the decorations aren’t sticking, use a small dab of melted chocolate as “glue.”
- So you don’t end up with smudges or fingerprints on the set candy, Let cookies fully harden before touching. If needed, wear food-safe gloves when handling to prevent fingerprints.
Recipe FAQs
Can I use white chocolate instead of black candy melts?
Yes! You can melt white chocolate and add oil-based black food coloring to achieve a dark color. Avoid water-based food coloring, as it can cause the chocolate to seize.
How long do these treats last?
These treats can last up to a week at room temperature in an airtight container.
Can I freeze these Oreo treats?
Yes! Place them in a single layer in an airtight container with wax paper between layers. Freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature before serving to prevent condensation from making the chocolate sticky.
