No bribing. No begging. Just one simple trick that worked.

Like most parents, I've spent way too much time trying to get my kids to eat vegetables.
I've tried hiding them in food, offering rewards, and making them look "fun." Sometimes it worked, but mostly, it just led to battles at the dinner table.
Then I changed one simple thing-and suddenly, my kids started eating veggies without a fight.
The Trick: Serving Vegetables First (When They're Already Hungry)
Instead of putting vegetables on their dinner plate with everything else, I started serving them before the main meal-when they were already hungry.
- Raw carrot sticks while I cooked.
- Cucumber slices on the table before dinner.
- A small plate of roasted broccoli before the main meal.
The result: No more resistance. No more bargaining. Just kids eating veggies because they were already hungry.
Why This Works So Well
I wasn't expecting much when I tried this, but the results were instant. Here's why this trick works better than anything else I've tried.
1. Hunger Makes Everything Taste Better
What I used to do:
- Serve veggies with the main meal, when kids had more appealing options.
- Expect them to choose broccoli over mac and cheese.
What I do now:
- Offer vegetables first when they're actually hungry.
- Let them snack on veggies while waiting for dinner.

The result: They eat without complaints-because hunger wins over picky eating.
2. No Pressure = Less Resistance
What I used to do:
- Nagged them to "just try one bite."
- Made veggies feel like a chore instead of a choice.
What I do now:
- Casually put out a plate of veggies with no pressure.
- Act like it's totally normal (because it is).

The result: When veggies aren't a battle, kids are more willing to try them.
3. It Changes Their Mindset About Vegetables
What I used to do:
- Treated veggies like the "healthy" thing they had to eat.
- Made it obvious I was trying to get them to eat them.
What I do now:
- Serve veggies the same way I serve snacks.
- Let them enjoy them on their own terms.

The result: Veggies become just another food-no drama attached.
4. They Eat More Without Even Noticing
What I used to do:
- Put one or two pieces of veggies on their plate and hoped for the best.
- Made the main meal the "star" of dinner.
What I do now:
- Serve veggies first, in a generous portion.
- Let them eat as much as they want before moving on.

The result: They eat way more veggies than before-without even thinking about it.
How to Try This Trick at Home
- Pick one vegetable (carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, roasted sweet potatoes).
- Serve it before the meal-while they're waiting to eat.
- Make it casual. No pressure, no fuss, just an option.
- Be consistent. The more you do it, the more it becomes normal.
Pro Tip: Keep a stash of pre-cut veggies in the fridge so they're always easy to grab.
