Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (use more as needed)
  • 2 chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons hot BBQ seasoning
  • salt and pepper
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons hot honey (use more as needed)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 450 F
  • Place the skillet over medium heat.
  • Cut your skinless chicken breasts through the middle to create 4 pieces of thinner chicken fillets. Season each chicken fillet with ½ teaspoon BBQ seasoning and salt and pepper. Set aside.
  • In a shallow dish, combine flour with the remaining amount of BBQ seasoning and mix well.
  • Dredge each chicken fillet in the seasoned flour mixture.
  • Add olive oil to the preheated skillet. When the oil is hot, put the fillets in the skillet. Fry the chicken on each side for approximately 3-4 minutes per side or until they've turned brown.
  • Place the skillet in the oven. Cook the chicken for about 8-10 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken reads 165 F.
  • Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven. Drizzle hot honey sauce over the chicken fillets, serve, and enjoy.

Notes

Pro Tips

  • You can also tenderize the chicken fillets before coating them with the flour mixture. You can let them marinate in buttermilk, cover the dish with plastic wrap, and then refrigerate it for about 1 hour up to overnight. This step will give your chicken a great tangy flavor.
  • For best results, pat the chicken dry before coating them with flour. This will remove excess moisture from the meat and ensure it cooks and turns golden brown.
  • Toss the cooked chicken in the hot honey sauce immediately after it's done to allow the sauce to adhere well. This ensures the chicken absorbs the flavors while still hot.
  • Before serving, sprinkle freshly chopped herbs like cilantro, parsley, or chives over the hot honey chicken. This adds a burst of freshness and complements the sweet and spicy flavors.
  • You can also serve this dish with some extra spicy honey on the side for drizzling or dipping.
