In January, my husband and I will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Due to his career in the military, we aren’t often in the same country to celebrate our anniversary but we will be this year so we want to do something memorable to mark the occasion. Since we were struggling college students when we got married, we didn’t do anything special for our honeymoon. We’ve been hoping to celebrate our 20th anniversary by taking a honeymoon-like vacation to a resort destination. One option at the top of our list is Aruba. Here’s why.
Aruba Is One of the Best Resort Destinations
The west coast (about a seven-mile strip) of Aruba is lined with resorts so that it is easy to find a place to meet your vacation expectations whether it be to relax or to have an adventure. No matter where you stay, you can count on great weather because Aruba has more sunny days each year than any other Caribbean island and enjoys 82-degree temperatures year-round.
How do I know it’s one of the best resort destinations? Because it’s been ranked that way!
· Trip Advisor ranked Aruba’s Eagle Beach one of the top ten beaches in the world
· U.S. News & World Report ranked Aruba as one of its Best Caribbean Family Vacations in 2012
· Brides Magazine ranked Aruba as one of the World’s Top Honeymoon Destinations
My husband is an outdoorsman. So any vacation that we take will have to include some fun outdoor activities. Aruba has several to choose from including:
· Horseback Riding
· Mountain Biking
· ATV and Motorcycle Tours
· Sky Diving
· Canoeing and Kayaking
· Body Boarding and Surfing
· Snorkeling and Scuba Diving
· Sport Fishing
Contrary to my husband, I like to go on vacation to relax. So, after we’ve tackled a few adventure activities, these are the things I’m looking forward to:
· Visiting one of the many Spas
· Exploring Local Museums
· Soaking in the Natural Pool
· Cruising on a Catamaran
· Strolling one of the many Beaches
Though we’re hoping to get away for a romantic vacation, with four kids it may be difficult to escape alone. I was relieved to find that Aruba has several family-friendly activities we could enjoy together.
· Jeep Tours
· Rock Formations
· Historic Gold Mines
· Model Train Museum
· Animal Garden
· Butterfly Farm
· Underwater Tours
If we do manage to go as a couple, Aruba has an active nightlife that we would love to experience. We can:
· Try our luck at one of the many casinos
· Go to a live show
· Relax at a piano bar
· Dance the night away at one of the clubs
· Sing in front of strangers at a karaoke bar
With over 100 restaurants to choose from, influenced by flavors from all over the world, we will definitely eat well while in Aruba. As a resort location, the service is rumored to be outstanding and world-class chefs lead many of the restaurant kitchens.
Aruba also has a wide selection of shops. The best part of shopping in Aruba is that prices are typically 10-35% lower than those in the U.S. so we can actually afford to bring back souvenirs to everyone we left at home.
Have you been to Aruba? Would you like to? Please share your opinions in the comments. I’d love to know what you think about it as a vacation destination.
