When I wrote my spring cleaning series, I included a lot of cleaning techniques that involved the use of natural ingredients such as vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. As a germophobe, I was a big fan of chlorine bleach to disinfect. While I still use it on occasion, I have tried to find safer alternatives since chlorine bleach has been linked to asthma and allergy symptoms, immune dysfunction, and cancer.
Vinegar is an inexpensive, readily available, organic super star when it comes to cleaning and deodorizing. When I found out that Hana Haatinainen Caye, better known as Green Grandma, had written an entire book about vinegar and its uses, I had to have it. Because she is super awesome and wants as many people as possible to learn all the great ways vinegar can be used to improve their lives, she sent me TWO free copies of the book. One to read and review so I could tell you all about it. And another to give away to one lucky winner!
Green Grandma’s Vinegar Fridays
The book is called “Green Grandma’s Vinegar Fridays: A Splash of Vinegar With a Dash of Personality” inspired by her weekly blog posts that featured tips on using vinegar. While Green Grandma appreciates the many varieties of vinegar, within the book she focuses on the two with the widest variety of uses–distilled white vinegar and apple cider vinegar.
There are too many tips in the book for me to go over in detail here (which is why you should buy the book!) but here is a sampling of what you will find:
- How to use vinegar to clean everything from windows to furniture
- Practical uses for vinegar for every room in your house and your car
- How to use vinegar as a disinfectant
- How to use vinegar to remove odors
- How to enhance your beauty with vinegar
- How to improve your health with vinegar
- How to lose weight with vinegar
- How to keep bugs at way with vinegar
- How vinegar can help you be a Wondermom
- How to help your pets with vinegar
I’d like to point out that before reading this book, I thought I knew a lot about all the ways vinegar could be used to clean and disinfect your home. Already impressed with vinegar as a super material, I still had no idea all of the things it really is capable of. This book has taught me how to use it to renew leather furniture, get a great manicure, treat aches and pains, and make perfect rice. In addition, throughout the book Green Grandma provides a lot of information about WHY you should be substituting vinegar for other solutions in your household (e.g. why fabric softener can be harmful to your health).
Considering you can buy a gallon of white distilled vinegar for a couple of dollars, by replacing your cleaning solutions with vinegar you could save enough to justify the small price of this book on your very next shopping trip. Whether you are looking to “green” your lifestyle or save money, the tips in Green Grandma’s Vinegar Fridays will be extremely beneficial to you. To get a copy now, click here.
