If you are like many moms, then you are trying to stick to the budget, stay healthy, keep your house from becoming a biohazard, and, oh yeah, keep the kids alive, too. However, you might find that when your focus is on taking care of your family, your personal needs fall by the wayside. For a lot of women, one of the first things to get neglected is good nutrition. Here are a few tricks for managing to feed yourself right even on your busiest days.
Leftovers for Lunch
If you manage to get a healthy meal on the table for dinner most nights, then you are already more than halfway to a healthy lunch. Instead of letting the leftovers wither and die in the fridge, bring them along with you wherever you are going the next day. When you clean up after dinner, pack a portion of the leftovers directly into food storage containers. You will end up killing two birds with one stone—dinner gets cleaned up, and your next day’s lunch is ready to go.
Make It Look Pretty
You are a lot more likely to commit to packing your lunch if you have a nice place to put it. Sure, you could go with the brown bag or plastic grocery bag method, but there are a lot of lunch bags for women on the market that make those other receptacles look like—well, trash.
Some of the reusable lunch bags out there are so cute that they look more like purses. There are styles available to fit any taste—shoulder bags, handbags, stripes, florals, polka dots, and so much more. While their exteriors are undeniably gorgeous, every mom knows that it’s what’s on the inside that really counts. Interior insulation compartments make it possible to keep fresh vegetables or healthy leftovers chilled all day long. This way, you have a wider range of options to bring wherever you are going, making you less likely to cave to your Burger King cravings.
Despite your best efforts, you might still occasionally find yourself out and about, starving, and with no food on hand. Even if your only option is to hit the drive thru, you do not have to resign yourself to gulping down grease.
One of the best tricks for navigating the fast food minefield is to have water with your meal instead of a soft drink. Aside from the fact that water is usually complimentary, it is also much better for you than the average 187 calories and 45.02 grams of sugar in a 16 oz. serving of soda. In addition to drinking water, you can also opt for restaurants that offer healthy options, such as proteins that are grilled rather than fried or salads with healthy fixings.
Stay Thriving Through Busy Times
Although you might be inclined at times to neglect your own nutrition, it is important to stay on top of it. After all, your life is not going to slow down anytime soon, and you need to be healthy enough to handle whatever comes your way. It might seem like a lot of extra effort to eat healthy on the go, but all it really takes is a few simple tricks. Pay attention to what you eat, even if it feels like you barely have time to eat it. Your family and your body will appreciate the effort.
