Ingredients

To make these Texas sheet cake cookies you only need ten basic ingredients. You already have most of these ingredients on hand which can save you a trip to the grocery store.

  • butter – melted
  • sugar
  • egg
  • Vanilla
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • flour
  • Milk Chocolate chips – melted
  • Cocoa
  • Milk
  • powdered sugar

Substitutions

Chocolate Chips: Use semi-sweet or dark chocolate in place of milk chocolate chips if you would like.

Store bought frosting: Don’t want to make your own frosting. Melt store bought chocolate frosting for 30 seconds at a time until you can pour it.

How to Make Texas Sheet Cake Cookies

This recipe for Texas sheet cake cookies only has seven steps. Follow these steps and you will end up with soft and rich chocolate cookies.

Step 1: Preheat the oven and cream butter and sugar

First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then in the mixing bowl of a stand mixer, cream the butter and sugar, until light and fluffy.  Add the egg, and vanilla, and blend until smooth.

Step 2: Mix dry ingredients

In a bowl, mix together the baking powder, salt, and flour.  Add the flour mixture to the mixing bowl, and mix on low until all the flour is incorporated. 

Step 3: Melt the chocolate

Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave, at 15-second intervals, stirring in between, until chocolate chips are melted. Stir until smooth, and add to the mixing bowl.  Mix on medium speed until well blended.

Step 4: Shape the cookie dough

Drop by the Tablespoonful onto a nonstick cookie sheet (you can also line the cookie sheet with Parchment paper).

Step 5: Bake the cookies

Bake for 10 – 12 minutes, until completely baked.  Remove from oven, and leave cookies on cookie sheet.

Step 6: Make the icing

While cookies are baking, make the Icing:  In a medium sauce pan, place the butter, cocoa, and milk, and stir until melted, and smooth.  Remove the pan from the heat, and stir in powdered sugar, stirring until completely smooth.

Step 7: Ice the cookies

Spoon the icing over the cookies on the cookie sheet, and allow icing to set as cookies cool. Once cookies have completely cooled, remove from cookie sheet, and place on a cookie platter.
