I realize for other people the answer will be different, but for me, I'm at an age when I believe life is too short to waste on people or things that don't make you better. If it's the parents (who should know how to behave by now), I find a way to politely bring our time together to an end.

I agree, that when children are in my home, I will be clear on the rules and expect them to follow them (not that I have excessive rules, but same as you, don’t jump on the couch/destroy things/be hateful). I would also take the lead if another child’s parents left me in charge.

I agree with all your situations, with one caveat – if the other parent is present then I will only step in if safety or extreme disrespect is involved. But I would welcome your help raising my children if I’m not present any time at all, Corinne.

I pretty much agree with you. It was never my job to parent another child, but it was my job to have them follow the few rules I set aside in my home. When we were outside of my home and children’s parents were around, I only worried about mine! Unless of course there was a danger involved. Great article.
