My Teen Daughter’s Favorite Gift This Year

Earlier this month, as part of my series 30 Days of Gift Guides, I shared the Best Gifts for Teen Girls based on my teen daughter’s input and advice from her friends. Little did I know I omitted one gift that quite unexpectedly delighted my teen daughter — a Minions onesie. Say what now?

Minions And A Onesie Are The Perfect Combination

The minions part didn’t surprise me since my family is full of minion maniacs. With kids ranging in age from 8-18, we rarely find movies that we all love, but Despicable Me and its spinoff, Minions were both family favorites. Something about those adorable, expressive, humorous little guys can evoke a smile from any of us even when we’re in the grumpiest of moods.

The elation over one-piece pajamas? That’s what threw me. Apparently, a onesie is a declarative statement that you have made a serious commitment to getting comfortable and staying indoors for the next several hours. Unlike pajama pants which can sometimes be pulled off as college casual in public, one-piece pajamas are a fashion statement intended for at-home display only.

Put minions and one-piece pajamas together and you have the recipe for pure bliss for my teen daughter who is typically determined to complain about everything. She couldn’t hide her smile when I presented her with these Minions one-piece PJs.

She immediately abandoned any and all plans that necessitated leaving the house and promptly changed out of her clothes into her “full-body hug,” as she likes to refer to her new onesie.

Her excitement over her new pajamas hit a new high when she realized she could truly wear them for hours on end thanks to the drop seat. I would explain that statement in greater detail, but because I would like my teen daughter to continue to speak to me, I’m not going to.

Minion Onesie Pajamas Are Super Soft

One unexpected effect of the pajamas is that the rest of the family likes to “pet” my daughter. I must confess I’m guilty of doing it too. The microfiber fleece is super soft and petting my daughter’s sleeve while she’s wearing it is as soothing as petting my cat and free from the risk of being scratched or bitten, though accompanied with the same look of confusion/disdain.

My younger daughter is suffering from severe pajama envy and has already updated her Christmas wish list with “MINIONS ONESIE” printed in large letters at the top. I don’t have the heart to tell her this particular style is only available for women.

Luckily, you don’t have to suffer pajama envy. You can get your own set for under $20 at Walmart (both in store and online). Even better, in addition to Minions, you can also get Hello Kitty and Batman. Look for them in the sleepwear section at Walmart, where you will probably find me picking up the Batman set (you can probably tell from my logo that I love superheroes).
