Inspiration for This Instant Pot Apple Cake
It’s no secret that I love my Instant Pot. I share all the reasons why on my Instant Pot page, along with links to all of my Instant Pot recipes.
As you’ll probably notice in the list of my recipes, I use my Instant Pot a lot to make dinner for my family. After seeing all of the delicious desserts other people were making in their Instant Pots, I was dying to try my own.
I wasn’t ready to tackle cheesecake yet, so I started with a simple cake. This Instant Pot Apple Cake is about as easy as it gets.
One reason I chose to bake a cake in the Instant Pot is that I don’t usually like cake. It’s too dry and crumbly in my opinion and needs a heavy dose of frosting to win me over.
I hoped that by making the cake in the Instant Pot, it would be so moist I wouldn’t need frosting. And that’s exactly what I got!

Instant Pot Apple Cake Recipe
I don’t do complicated. I don’t have the time or energy for it. As a result, this Instant Pot Apple Cake is super easy to make. Here’s how:
- 2 Cups diced and peeled apples
- ½ Cup applesauce
- 1 Tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ Tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ Tsp ground star anise optional
- ¼ Tsp ground clove
- ½ Tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ½ Cups flour
- ¼ Cup butter
- ¼ Cup oil
- 2 Eggs
- 1 Egg yolk
- ½ Cup sugar
- ½ Cup chopped nuts and almonds
In a bowl beat the oil, butter, eggs and egg yolk. Add the applesauce, the spices, and the sugar. Slowly incorporate the flour and mix until there are no lumps left. Mix in the diced apples.
Grease and flour a cake pan (I used a 7” one). Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Top with the chopped nuts and with the help of a toothpick or knife swirl the batter and the nuts.
Add 1 cup water to the Instant Pot and cover the pan with a paper towel. Tightly wrap it with aluminum foil. Place the cake pan on the trivet and place the trivet into Pot.
Press manual and adjust for 60 minutes. Let it release all the steam naturally before opening the lid.
Carefully take out the trivet and unwrap the pot. Let it cool down before serving.
