DIY Mother’s Day Gifts

While most moms are happy just to be acknowledged and appreciated on Mother’s Day, most of their children like to represent their appreciation in a tangible way. It can be hard to come up with a gift that adequately conveys how much we appreciate our moms though. DIY Mother’s Day gifts are always a great way to express our love since they show that we put time and effort into them. Here’s a collection of some of my favorite DIY Mother’s Day gift ideas.

Home Decor

My family is the most important part of my life so I like to keep visual reminders of them all around me. My mother is the same and I believe many other moms feel this way. That’s why home decor gifts are perfect for Mother’s Day since they are things your mom can keep on display and see each day to remind her of how much you love and appreciate her.

Lighting

These teacup candles from Budget Savvy Diva are adorable AND easy to make.

If mom likes to sit on the back porch at night, perhaps she’d prefer this outdoor lighting made from discount store vases instead as seen on Life with Lorelai.

Wall Art

I personally prefer wall art since I have lots of bare walls in my house.

For something colorful and unique, you could make a button art flower like this one from Slap Dash Mom.

And did you know it’s actually pretty easy to create your own silhouette portrait? Mary, from Mission to Save, shows you how.

I’m secretly hoping one of my kids will suprise me with this family tree canvas from Ashlee Marie (hint hint!).

This popsicle stick hexagon shelf from the Make and Do Crew is also really cool.

If mom has a large open space on her wall, you could help her fill it with a wooden marquee sign like this one from Life with Lorelai.

Helpful Items

If you want to give mom something that will not only be visually appealing, but will also serve a purpose, you might opt instead to make one of these helpful items.

Instead of using a teacup to make a candle, you can turn it into a teacup pin cushion following this great tutorial from Creative Green Living. You can buy dmc threads to include with the gift if mom likes to embroider.

If mom likes to read, she’ll love these felt bow bookmarks from Cutesy Crafty.

Help mom stay hydrated with a beautiful etched glass water bottle (thanks to Creative Green Living for the tutorial!).

For moms who like to cook, you can create paint-dipped utensils to match her kitchen, thanks to handy tips from Cleverly Simple.

And what mom doesn’t need a place to keep small items like jewelry, coins, or spare buttons? Susan, from Organized 31, shows you how to easily create a personalized trinket holder from a thrift store bowl.

How about this chalkboard message tray from Faith Filled Food for Moms for larger items? Bonus, skip the card and write your mother’s day greeting right on the gift!

Printables

Short on time or craft ability? You can still give mom a personalized homemade gift thanks to these free printables!

For mom’s sweet tooth, use these free printable Mother’s Day candy bar wrappers from the Kiwi in the Clouds.

Or, if your mom’s favorite indulgence is a glass of wine at the end of the day, you might prefer these printable Mother’s Day wine labels from Smart Party Planning instead.

Of course, a Mother’s Day coupon book like this free printable version from 100 Directions is always a favorite!
