The easiest way to save money is to know the best time to buy the things you need and want. By timing your purchases wisely you can save hundreds, even thousands, of dollars each year!

Improving your financial situation doesn’t have to mean earning more money. You can substantially improve your financial well-being by simply holding onto more of your dollars.

I share a lot of money saving tips and tricks to help you hold onto more of your dollars. I also share shopping tips and resources to help you save more when you shop.

Why Does Purchase Timing Matter?

While there are a lot of different ways to get good deals, over time I’ve realized the most important element. When it comes to scoring deals, it turns out timing is everything.

We all know that the best time to buy items for any holiday are immediately after the holiday is over because it’s immediately out-of-date and the store wants to get those Halloween supplies out of there so they can start setting up for Christmas (is anyone else upset over the fact that Thanksgiving gets completely overlooked?).  And of course, almost everything is on sale in January because everyone is too broke to shop.

So, if you can figure out when products are the most difficult for stores to unload their leftover inventory, you can find some amazing deals!

When is the Best Time to Buy?

Some cyclical discounts aren’t entirely obvious.  For example, did you know that March is National Frozen Food Month?  I promise you I am not making that up.  It’s a thing.  And a big thing.

And inexplicably, while you will score your best deals on china (the dishes, not the country) in January, you need to hold off until October to get the best deal on your silverware.

I’m kind of a nerd and actually enjoy reading consumer strategy books in my downtime. And as a blogger, I spend a lot of time on the internet. So, I’ve found and compared dozens of “what to buy when” charts.  Here’s everything I learned summed up in a handy printable chart:

    • Ooh, I’d have to do some research to answer that with any confidence, but it’s a great blog post idea! Thanks for the idea. Adding it to my to do list!

  4. What a great list. I need a new washer, so I will make sure I go out on Sunday – I would wait longer, but the pile is already to my head! I always thought flights were less on Monday. I will have to go and tell my mom this news, she will be visiting soon!

  5. I’m a bit competitive so scoring a good sale makes me feel great (I think you’re the same competitive personality, Corinne). And I’m glad that I read to the end. I need to know about saving on airline tickets with my “baby” away at college. Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday will find me checking air fares.

    • Like most things, you need to shop ahead of the season or after the season. So, find one while he’s still in college, otherwise you have to wait until he’s out-of-fashion (when the hair stops growing where it should and starts appearing where it shouldn’t).
