7 Types of Mom Friends All Moms Need

In grade school, high school and college, they were always there, having your back no matter what went down. Boy drama, family problems, the occasional all-night cram session – it didn’t matter what the situation was, your besties were always there for you.

But these days, you don’t seem to have as many friends. You may have drifted apart from your old group or they might not be on the mommy track yet. Whatever the reason, you’re flying solo these days. And that’s fine because between work, your partner, your baby and your job, you don’t have much time left for friends anyway.

Well, I’m here to tell you you’re making a big mistake. Having friends is essential, whether you realize it or not. Here are some types of friends every mom needs in her life. They’ll make her a better mom and person – and they’ll teach her how to have fun, even when trying to be the responsible adult.

1. The Experienced Mom

This type of mom is invaluable to you. There are probably very few situations that will throw her for a loop.

If you’re a new mom, the experienced mom will be a comfort to you. Whenever something strange happens, send her a quick text and she’ll give you great advice. If you’re having a problem with the suction on your breast pump or your child breaks out with a diaper rash, she’ll be able to take a quick look and give you great advice that would have taken you hours to figure out on your own.

2. The Cool Mom

Many moms feel like they’ve lost a lot of their coolness by becoming a mom. They may be a size or two bigger and they can no longer fit into their old wardrobe, or they lost a part of themselves that felt like a critical piece of their identity. Whatever the reason, you need a cool mom in your life to restore the balance.

In a way, it’s kind of like high school. If you hang out with someone who is cooler than you, you start feeling cooler. It’s a good confidence booster, and that’s something every mom needs. Just be sure though that your cool mom isn’t actually one of the mean girls. She should be nice, not cruel.

3. The Unfiltered Mom

Motherhood isn’t easy, so you need someone in your life who won’t sugarcoat anything. That’s where the unfiltered mom comes in.

She’ll say exactly what she’s thinking, pretty much all the time. Sometimes it might be a little hard to swallow, but other times you need that kind of honesty in your life.

4. The Girls’ Night Planner

This mom will organize some kick-ass nights out for her inner circle. She knows how to have fun, and she won’t let you beg off because you’d rather sit home and watch Netflix. She knows how important fun time is for moms, and you can always be sure you’ll laugh all night long when she’s at your side.

A mom who will round up the troops and show you time of your life? Make sure you include one of these moms in your group of friends.

5. The Exercise-Loving Mom

Run five miles while pushing a stroller? It’s no problem for this super fit mom.

Everyone needs one of these moms in her corner because, as moms, it’s far too easy to put ourselves last. This kind of mom knows that physical fitness is a key component of both physical and mental health.

This mom will challenge you to work your hardest and be the best version of you that you can be.

6. The Organized Mom

Every detail of this mom’s life is carefully tucked away in a safe spot, ready for her to access whenever she needs it. The list of vaccinations her kids have had? Check. The first picture they drew? It’s probably neatly protected in a scrapbook already.

Meanwhile, you don’t even know where you put the bill you got in the mail last week. Sounds like you could learn a lot from having an organized mom as a friend. She can teach you all the tricks she uses to neatly file away all her information, and maybe you can teach her how to relax a little.

7. The Super Saver Mom

If money seems to slip right through your fingers, you need to become friends with a super saver as soon as you can. She’ll be able to teach you how to use coupons and find the best deals. Having more money stockpiled is always a good thing.

These Women Will Help You Rock Motherhood

With help from all your new friends, you’ll learn to work efficiently, not worry so much and, best of all, you’ll have a new group to lean on when the going gets tough.
When women stick together, there’s nothing we can’t do.
